Shanda Smith knows what it’s like to experience a mental health crisis. Her family has lived it.

Her daughter, Alyssa, has battled depression, anxiety and anger issues since she was 3. The family sought out doctors, and counselors to help before getting treatment at Cincinnati Children’s.

The Smiths are not alone in their struggle. Mental health is one of the largest pediatric challenges facing the Greater Cincinnati community, touching roughly 20 percent of the population.

Cincinnati Children’s has tried to meet those needs – in part through a 35,000-square-foot expansion at the College Hill Campus to serve more than 2,100 psychiatric patients each year.

Meeting the needs of patients like Alyssa is part of Cincinnati Children’s mission.

We know that behavioral health issues are so often tied in with the physical illnesses we treat. We are here to work with families and advocate for your needs. It’s all about changing the outcome together.
