Behavioral health worker shortage affects San Diego region and beyond

Over 18,000 additional behavioral health workers are needed in San Diego County in the next five years to support the demand.

  1. The reason for the shortage is the crappy pay. Starting salaries are between $18 to $25 an hour. It's too expensive to live in San Diego. New graduates are heading to far less expensive regions.

  2. I worked in healthcare for three decades and left when my salary kept going down to the point I could not survive on it. Corporate greed and insuranced companies is what causef our healthcare system to be where irt is today. Reform is badly needed.
