The mental world is a torture for me
When a Mexican cartel gangster skins someone alive and hangs him from a lamppost because he didn't get the ransom money… Nobody cares… When a schizo is tortured for years on end and puts up with extreme circumstances and talks to himself its world news… Your not special..
Great presentation
Great presentation Michaela Mulenga
I feel very stigmatized
Great presentation. Here in the United States, this type of talk would be good for middle school and high school age children. The overwhelming need to fit in is a dangerous thing for us all. Don’t suffer in silence!! Pay attention, be patient and be supportive!
Started with a fallacy.
Great work!
With a seemingly altruistic agenda, the fact is campaigns aimed at ending the “stigma” of mental illness often have a hidden agenda: they are driven and funded by those who benefit from more people being labeled mentally ill and drugged—the psychiatric-pharmaceutical industry. The conflicts of interest with many of these groups is so pervasive that in 2009, a U.S. Senate investigation probed into the nation’s largest mental illness advocacy group, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). The group was asked to disclose any financial backing from drug companies or from foundations created by the industry. It was revealed that in two years alone (2006-2008) the pharmaceutical industry (Pharma) funded NAMI to the tune of $23 million, representing about three-quarters of its donations. NAMI still partners with psychotropic drug manufacturers.
Other groups of concern were Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD), the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA), and Mental Health America (MHA), formerly the National Mental Health Association, to name but a few.
The people who have mental illness stigma does a diet plan is a big role and exercise .
Thanks for speaking on Mental illness! It definitely needs to be talked about more.
My mental illness, which include sleep disorder (both symptoms and causations) since 9 years old. Now my mental illness contribute to my ALS,
which cause my paralysis. One day my nerve damage will cause organs failures, usually the lungs and suffocate to death.
So is real, mental illness cause biological destruction.
IF UNPREPARED ITS ALL APART OF SPIRITUAL AWAKENING!!!! THERE IS NO MENTAL ILLNESS!!!! YOU ARE BEING TESTED AND THE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES-ARE BENEFITTING OFF YOUR IGNORANCE!!! PLEASE PEOPLE UNDERSTAND YOU ARE NOT GOING “CRAZY” just do breathing exercises and you will be fine!!! This is the biggest false information campaign to have ever to have taken place in human evolution……… PLEASE SPREAD THIS MESSAGE CAUSE ITS REAL! Contact me if your lost and need help as I can help you
That opening exercise was so perfect in representing the issue.
Great speech!
My uncle doesn't understand that my disability is mental illness. He has a physical disability and thinks I'm just being 'lazy'. (I have OCD and psychosis)
I think of severe depression as the absolute absence of hope.
Awesome video and wonderfully said
You seem to have the cart before the horse: It is those taught and teaching that prejudice whom we ought be addressing. They got into your head, they did not get into mine.
The stigma? The stigma begins with the psychiatrists themselves. They're the ones who do the stigmatizing.
If I can change one thing it would be to not have every representative of mental illness stigma be about depression and anxiety. And I suspect most of these depressed anxious young adults come from relative wealth privilege and power.
Keep up!!Great presentation
