A Behavioral Health Counselor provides constant and comprehensive patient supervision and support, facilitates psycho-educational groups and contributes to overall implementation of therapeutic programming including experiential therapy, meal-time and bathroom support. The Behavioral Health Counselor also ensures a safe and therapeutic environment.

The primary duties and responsibilities of a Behavioral Health Counselor are:
Assisting patients with emotional regulation
Ongoing assessment and monitoring of physical/mental status
Performing checks on the unit to ensure environmental safety and patient location
Facilitateing meals with patients consistent with Policy and Procedure
Maintaining daily program structure
Assisting in the AM/PM routine
Facilitating groups within realm of individual training and expertise
Contributing clinical information and observations about patients in documentation
Accompanying patients on fresh air breaks and planned outings
Being creative in therapeutic interventions in order to maintain a safe, supportive, clinically
sound milieu
Providing 1:1 outreach to patients if necessary
