Therapeutic communication helps you understand what your patients are going through – which is why it’s tested on the NCLEX exam.

As a nurse, you’ll often be the first point of contact between a patient and their medical team. In order to practice effective therapeutic communication, you need to listen closely, be open to feedback, and ask open-ended questions.

As a part of our Mental Health series, we provide you with plenty of therapeutic communication techniques and examples.

  2. I just passed my NCLEXRN. I availed your 600+ pesos plan. it was indeed a great help. the assessment tests and videos are superb. I didn't use any other reviewer. simple nursing is highly recommended for NCLEX takers. *underrated

  3. Follow patient telling nurse how he feels like “ I am sad, despair, I wish not wake up” then what’s the next step for nurse?? What should nurse respond?

  4. Blaming nurses for things they didn't do is a form of communication that is toxic. Criticizing each other harshly like they are perfect angels is another. Nurses also become toxic communicators when they start checking up on other nurses patients to show their nursing judgement is better than another! We all learned the same things yet run around competing and trying to out perform each other on the job. For nurses to be gifted in the area of therapeutic communication- alot of nurses seem to use their gifts erroneously and harshly.

  5. Hi sir
If a patient asks us that after taking this medicine will I be ok ?. Then what will be our response to the patient where as a Nurse can not provide false assurance
