Mental health care delivery in the 21st century: Christiaan Greer at TEDxUMN

Christiaan Greer is a 4th year doctoral candidate at the University of Minnesota’s counseling psychology program. His primary research interests involve studying the effects of trauma and, most recently, developing online interventions for stress and anxiety. Prior to his doctoral studies, Christiaan worked at the Brain Injury Research Center at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York as a research assistant helping to study the effects of cognitive rehabilitation on patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). He also worked as a high school teacher for seven years in New York City at the Churchill School and Center, a school for children with learning disabilities.

The individuals involved with TEDxUMN have a passion for bringing together the great thinkers at the University of Minnesota and giving them the opportunity to share their ideas worth spreading and to discuss our shared future. We provide these great people the opportunity to share these ideas on a global stage and with an incredibly diverse audience. We believe in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately the world.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

  1. Thank you Christiaan Greer….This was a wonderful, clear, and precise argument for a Triage or Step Care Model. I am in my MSW training, and this pulled together and articulated the budding professional inclinations/preferences that I have. Thank you for your clear argument, presentation, and work. I am interested in the Internet Intervention for college students that you described. May you positively affect many, without prescribing their symptoms away, only to cause a rash of new and different symptoms.

  2. What is the vital and important role that pharmacological treatment helps anyone?! Schizophrenia does not have any independent existence beyond the minds of the committee from DSM that invented the « criteria »
