  1. There is no definitive mental test to determine health or disease that is empirical or proven to have certainty of validity. I have taken an mmpi multiple times and can skewer the results to indicate I’m very healthy or bat shit crazy. An intake interview in the USA for enlisted people is if your breathing and don’t have felony criminal records your sane enough to serve. If you have a medical condition that handicaps you you can still serve in a different capacity. If it’s a compulsory draft then your in even if your demonstratively unwell unbalanced or physically handicapped. Military service isn’t looking for kindness. Applying for many jobs requires it. The interviewer used their own judgement which may be very very wrong. It takes a long time talking to someone to determine their personality their character their behaviors and because none of these are immutable except bona fide observations of frank mental issues and even then those issues could be temporary or a ruse or good acting. The skill of the interviewer to disseminate the person based on their accumulated experience intuition and training helps come close to making an “educated” guess. We often see what we want to see. We all can act surprisingly different at any time without a clear reason why. There are studies that show attractive people are more successful but how are we defining attractive and how are we defining success? If taking a test to determine our intelligence is it cultural driven is it accurate is it meaningful. If a person is delusional are those delusions purposeful intentional or a defense mechanism. Is a persons attire representative of their personhood? Can we hypostatize from our observations accurately? We can try but we may not be accurate or correct. Some of us seem to be better at doing this then others for some yet unknown reason. That’s why go to ten shrinks or ten doctors and you’ll probably get ten different opinions. Or you’ll get a few similar and a few slightly different and a few vastly different. Who’s right? That tough yo definitively conclude so we look for evidence. Then make our own subjective conclusion based upon our collective experiences and hope for the best
