  1. I had a false memory of my mom having a nervous breakdown and sobbing as she threw dishes out of the kitchen cupboards onto the floor, while I stood among the shards, crying. My dad was there trying to calm Mom down. Later, I helped Dad clean up the mess. It's still clear in my mind to this very day (>60 years later), dumping dustpan-loads of fragments into the trash cans by the side of the house.

Never happened. It must have been a vivid dream. But when I mentioned to my dad when I was in my 20's, he just looked confused. "I…don't… remember that," he said. Then it hit me: that couldn't have been real. No matter how bad a day Mom might be having, she'd NEVER endanger me like that. I mean, the plates and bowls were landing right at my feet. And I was barefoot. (Also, we never even OWNED the number of plates and bowls that were hitting the floor.)

False memories are a thing. And I picked up mine without the "help" of hypnosis.
