“Every Day is Mental Health Awareness Day”: Hear Advice for Treating Mental Health Disorders

Four months ago, HCPLive asked psychiatric experts at the annual American Psychiatric Association (2024) meeting in New York, the same question: What is your message to your colleagues for mental health awareness month?

Here, we compiled clips of 12 interviews, selecting experts from several psychiatric backgrounds, from depression and anxiety to addiction and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Since September is Suicide Prevention Month, it’s crucial to acknowledge the significance of addressing mental health. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that an estimation of 46% of people who die by suicide had a known mental health condition. Research has shown mental health conditions such as depression, psychosis, and substance use are linked to an increased risk of suicide.

Clinicians, leave in the comments what advice you would give your colleagues regarding on how we should treat mental health.
