  1. I have a question. The person in the video is obviously suffering, and while he definitely has unproductive thoughts and behaviors, at minute 1:27 there's a jump to him calling what he's dealing with "mental illness." Do all of you think this is appropriate? (I'm a clinical mental health student, so I'm new at this. Be gentle.)

  2. I want to mention that being diagnosed with many co-morbid conditions AND having had undiagnosed ADHD for YEARS, it is worth noting if CBT in not effective for certain patients who are diagnosed with simply BPD, anxiety or depression, it could be that they are not able to access the pre-frontal cortex and a change in medication (stimulants or non-stimulants) may be the push they need to access that part of the brain that understands. I was on anti-depressants and was still not able to identify my thoughts. It just felt like that part of my brain did not exist. When I later on took stimulants as part of my treatment, I finally was able to "see" that part of my brain that does the thinking and was able to then identify that the negative thoughts came from external forces from the past, and was able to separate them from myself. Don't be too quick to right off patients as being difficult to treat when potentially they have been misdiagnosed.

  3. CBT has never worked for me, and I didn'T get why until I watched this video. Telling me to think or feel differently than I do makes me feel incredibly uncomfortable, makes me shut down and crawl right back into my shell. I know it's changed a lot of people's lives and has really good results but I guess I'm an outlier. I am tired of people recommending CBT to me though even after I tell them it just doesn't work for me and never has, and most importantly, never will…

    Realize the feelings are fake, push them down, and pay your mistress, I’m sorry, your therapist to “make your problems go away”.

    Sounds like Boardwalk Empire logic to me, but hey, you’re the “Doctor.”
