Mental Health Care That Disrupts Cycles of Violence | Celina de Sola | TED

In Latin American countries like El Salvador, homicide rates are alarmingly high thanks in large part to a vicious cycle of violence — people don’t have a chance to heal from recurrent individual and collective trauma. With her team at Glasswing International, de Sola is hoping to break this cycle by equipping government employees like teachers and police officers with the skills and knowledge they need to provide mental health care to those who need it most. Their goal: to transform more than 2,000 frontline institutions in 25 of the highest-risk municipalities in Central America with community-based approaches to mental health support, reaching nearly 10 million people along the way.

  1. Psychology is subjective.

Psychiatrists label those they hate, while encouraging the ABNORMAL behavior of those they love.

  2. If you want to disrupt cycles of violence, move to a 1st world country that isn't corrupt. Mental health can't do anything. By the way, if the cartels had mental health care, they would make everyone more violent to their benefit.

  3. This reminds me of the 3 Therapeutic Communities I attended ⚠️🌐❤
    A solution is possible ♻️🪄🪄🪄🪄

  4. Is there a way to teach these skills to everyday people so they/we can help ourselves and those around us, we need a way to disseminate this info around the world asap, and maybe we stand a chance, I say this because I could use this for me and my family and friends.

  7. The economic hardship, recession, unemployment and the loss of job caused by covid pandemic is enough to push people into financial venture I'm taking a trip into investing because I lost so much during this pandemic.

  8. I am from Japan. Japan is also faced with this mental health care problem.
    Recently, many mass murders happened
by those who suffer from serious psychosis.
This is a common issue in this world.

  9. To the TED Talks I chose was with the topic “ Mental Health Care That Disrupts Cycles of Violence.“I think in the video the speaker's delivery is very clear and easy to understand. From the results presented, it is explained that the mental health conditions found around are very extreme and have an unending impact on one's health, productivity and well-being. In today's world, violence has a perceived adverse effect that causes a stress response in the brain. These problems can even lead to diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and lung disease, anxiety and depression. However, with the problems experienced, there is still a lack of available mental health care such as community access to mental health care. However, it can start with oneself to start a community of mental health care for others. Violence today can be seen and felt from children to adults. Starting from individuals to groups led and trained by mental health nurses have a positive impact on him to improve his good mental health.

  10. Nice talks. It is true that violence can have an impact on health, especially mental health, namely the trauma felt by the victim. Even trauma can increase the risk of heart disease, lung disease and diabetes. Moreover, research shows that survivors of violence are 6 times more likely to be involved in violence or become victims again. Therefore, mental health services are needed. I totally agree with what is being said that health services are very lacking. In fact, it can be proven by education that the crime rate is reduced by 30%. Therefore we must be more serious in dealing with this.

  11. I think everyone has an obligation to help others, especially in this case to help people recover from violent trauma. Therefore, there is nothing wrong with helping a person to heal and avoid violence by providing them with mental health care. Whatever our profession, helping is a must.
