Increasing Access to Mental Health Services – Meet Dr Jasmine Vergara WHO Philippines
The World Health Organization’s ‘Who’s WHO’ video series tells the stories of WHO colleagues and the work they do to promote health, keep the world safe and serve the vulnerable. Meet Dr Jasmine Vergara, who works at WHO Philippines as a Technical Officer for Mental Health and Substance Use. In this video Jasmine shares her own experience with depression as a medical resident, how she sought help and eventually recovered. It’s led her to focus her work on mental health at WHO. “It’s okay to ask for help – reaching out to your trusted friends, mentors or teachers who would be able to guide you to the next step of recovery – that is one important key.”

, I am looking to move from America and I want to know how mental health specific autism is viewed by the community. In America if my 11 year old has a melt down, most of the time I feel indifferent. A ghost people avoid eye contact, walk arouind even over as my 11 year old lays down and struggles. Maybe 1-10 people say make the eye contact and ask if he is ok, 1-30 ask if they can assist. I dream of a place of tolerance and understanding, A smile and a wave to us might make my son feel welcome. I dont know… I go into his world as much as possible. It can be pure joy sometimes fustration to have a need and not be able to express what is needed, a world scary places and wonders through a childs eyes in a 11 year old body.
Do you know that in Philippine mental hospital there is assessment and observation areas? In rehab there is nothing. Even the name is not ask. Right?! People who will pay have the right to be followed?
Free myself from anxiety? I am travelling for 2 hours.. I am tired. Crazy?
If you the doctor will not assess you why would they give medication? Your pharmacies need money?
Its really simple….people with power abuse their power against those who are powerless against them or depend on them. An example of this is an abusive elder towards a child who knows no better but to obey. Also alot of times people who are abusive try to pose as innocent or harmless or even helpful, in order to be undetectable in their ulterior motives and intentions.
