Struggles to access mental healthcare facilities

Those who suffer from mental illnesses say they feel side-lined in South Africa, compared to those who have physical and visible illnesses. This, as reports say over 17 million South Africans live with a mental condition. Of those, more than 70% will unfortunately not receive a diagnosis, let alone treatment. Residents of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro share the pain of living with a mental illness and the struggle to access mental healthcare.
